Mixtape Club for ADC Young Guns - Apple Store Soho
Last night I attended a presentation by Mixtape Club. They are collective of insightful and creative; directors, animators, and computer scientists who create inspiring videos for the likes of J Dilla. TV on The Radio and Yeasayer. It was hosted at the Apple store by the Art Directors Club. They were awarded as Young Guns as cutting edge emerging creatives. What fascinated me was the collaborative way in which they work amongst themselves and with people outside the collective.
They are what I call slash creatives, because they each posses multiple creative skills that allow them to create and execute amazing concepts and visually stunning work on the small budgetary constraints that they work within. It was great to get a detailed explanation of their creative process. What was equally amazing is that they have found a way to blend analogue and found materials with digital animation and effects to create lush multilayered environments. They create some truly dope work, and I’ll be looking for this crew to really expand there skill set, vision and scale of projects once they start landing the bigger budgets.
