The 4th
What a day…what a day. What’s not to like about the 4th? Between sun, food, drink, BBQ’s nature, friends and fireworks, the day had it all. We started the day, by jumping on the bikes and riding to Park Slope for a great brunch. After eating we biked up the hill to the park. The sun was beaming by this time so we worked up a nice sweat. There were so many people in the park BBQing that the smell was wafting in our noses as we rode along the path to my favorite spot.
I have a little cubby that I often visit to think, relax and feed the ducks. For some reason, the ducks didn’t show up, so we chilled for a bit and rode back home. We showered up and crashed and then it was off to Castro’s back yard for a little BBQ. Castro is the undisputed grillmaster of the hood. He marinated meat, chicken and shrimp for four days. He was so proud of it, that even sent me a picture of it, as it marinated. I’m not partial to meat, but the chicken, shrimp and veggies were incredible. After eating, meeting some new folks, having some good laughs and sucking down a couple of Stellas, we were off to watch the fireworks.
Upon hitting The Promenade, we saw hordes of people out there to soak in the explosions of color. Unlucky for us, the fireworks were flying on the Hudson. We saw as much as we could through the buildings. It was too bad that the Verizon building was blocking our view. Oh well, we saw what we could. We jumped back on the bikes and made our way home. It was a fun day, but I was exhausted at the end of it.
